| Info | Anthony Seminerio was born February 15, 1935 in New York City. He was awarded a BS degree from the New York State Institute of Technology in 1978.
Until his election to the Assembly in November 1978, Assemblyman Seminerio served as a Corrections Officer in the New York City Corrections System.
Mr. Seminerio was elected in 1972 to serve as a union executive board member for the Corrections Officers Benevolent Association. In that capacity, he represented his peers in grievance procedures and served as a liaison between the union and the institutional commander. He then began extensive contract negotiations and lobbying in Albany and Washington on behalf of union-related legislation and aid to New York City.
He has made a career commitment to upgrading the status, training and benefits of professional penologists on all levels. He was the collective bargaining negotiator for Department of Correction members within the City of New York; 1st Vice-President of the Corrections Officers Benevolent Association, 1971-1978. Anthony Seminerio was also a founder and treasurer of the New York State Peace Officers Association. His experience as a Corrections Officer has led him to be an active sponsor of more stringent penalties for criminals.
Among his community achievements are securing funding for the first full-service senior citizens center in Queens and ensuring that construction resumed on a long-overdue library for the Forest Park community. His dedication to his community has earned him many awards, including Man of the Year from the Crime Victims Political Platform and the Queens Soccer Club. He also has received Achievement Awards from the Long Island Correctional Association, the Columbia Association of Corrections Officers and the Forest Park Senior Citizens Center.
Assemblyman Seminerio and his wife, the former Catherine McCormick, have three children. John and Anna are attorneys and Mabel is a schoolteacher. They are the proud grandparents of six grandchildren and are expecting one more. Mr. & Mrs. Seminerio reside in South Ozone Park, where he is involved in the Holy Name Society of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the Boy Scouts, the Columbia Association of the Department of Correction, New York State PTA and other community affairs. Known for his outspoken candor, Anthony Seminerio has also become a notable talk radio show host on WABC in the New York City area. He is also a part-time movie actor.
