Description | BBC Constituency Profile:
This Conservative-Lib Dem battleground on the banks of the Thames in south-west London includes the royal park itself, London's largest enclosed green space, and its environs. Generally an affluent area, home to many commuters in top professional positions, Richmond Park has leafy streets and many open green spaces, including Kew Gardens and the London Wetland Centre. It includes parts of the boroughs of Richmond and Kingston and is under the Heathrow flight path so any talk of airport expansion is a major concern.
This seat ranks third highest in England and Wales for residents in "very good health" and has the highest percentage of households with one car. It also ranks in the top five for adults with the highest level qualifications and for managers and directors. Unemployment is low.
Zac Goldsmith unseated the Lib Dems in 2010 to win this seat by 4,091 votes. Labour polled just 5% here, only just retaining its deposit. |
