| Description | BBC Constituency Profile:
Harrow West, considered to be more bohemian than its neighbours, boasts the first and only contemporary artist-led gallery in the borough, which was launched by the Usurp Art Collective in 2010. It is also home to Harrow School for boys, which was formallyfounded in 1572 and includes Sir Winston Churchill among its former pupils.
Just under 10% of passport holders in this constituency are from the Middle East and Asia, according to statistics from the ONS 2011Census for England and Wales.
Harrow West was Conservative for decades but, since Labour's landslide election victory in 1997, when Gareth Thomas took control of the seat for the new party in power, that all changed. Thomas has held the constituency ever since and, in 2010, won with 43.6% of the vote, followed by the Conservatives on 36.8%, Liberal Democrats 16.2% and UKIP 2.1%. |
