Info | Matt Murphy is running for State Senate to make the 27th District one of the best places to live, attend school, earn a living, raise a family, start a business, and retire comfortably. As a mainstream conservative, he is running to ensure that our state government gives us value for our hard earned tax dollars and respects the values we share.
A husband and father
Matt is a lifelong resident of the northwest suburbs of Chicago. He grew up in Mt. Prospect, the youngest of three brothers. His father sold plumbing supplies and his mother was a school teacher. He graduated from St. Viator High School and the University of Iowa before marrying fellow Viator alum Julie Enright. They have four children: Erin, Molly, Kevin, and Colleen. Matt coaches Molly's softball team, and earned the Positive Coach Award in 2005.
A successful attorney
Matt brings tough negotiation skills to bear on some of the tough challenges we face. His record of accomplishment as a successful attorney gives him the right footing to fight for our interests. After graduating from John Marshall Law School in 1996, Matt joined Rooks Pitts where he practiced commercial litigation. Today he is a practicing attorney with Brian J. McManus & Assoc. His experience as an attorney working with small business owners taught him the fundamentals of job creation and the negative effects that over-taxation and undue regulation have on economic growth and entrepreneurship. These lessons helped him better serve the members of the Greater Palatine Area Chamber of Commerce as a Trustee from 2003-04.
An elected leader
Matt has served as a Harper College Trustee since his election in 2003. He brings his independent thinking, knowledge of the community, business expertise, integrity, and conservative credentials to his work on the Board of Trustees. As a Trustee, Matt has been a leader, fighting to provide the best higher education possible while also keeping tuition affordable for the community. Matt has demonstrated the spending restraint we need in Springfield by voting for balanced budgets at Harper, even while revenue from state government decreased. Matt has pushed for partnerships with universities who offer four year degrees, so that more education will be available to more citizens. As a tireless advocate for the taxpayer, Matt has also voted more than once against raising executive salaries when taxpayers would foot the bill.
Matt has had the opportunity to live the American dream - raising a family, earning an honest living, owning a home. He is running for State Senate to ensure others have the same opportunity.
