Description |
This east-central Edmonton riding is bordered on the north mostly by the North Saskatchewan River, on the east by the city limits, on the south mostly by 90th Avenue and Connors Road, and in the west by 97th Street. In the 2004 redistribution the riding gained area on the north side of the river from Edmonton-Highlands, and ceded small areas in the south to Edmonton-Mill Creek and Edmonton-Strathcona.
This riding has more seniors than anywhere else in Alberta, with 19 per cent of residents older than 65. Retail is the major employer, followed by manufacturing. Household incomes average $50,669, below the provincial average. Almost 16 per cent of the income here comes from government transfer payments, and more than 14 per cent of residents are low income. Immigrants make up 19 per cent of the population, while 57 per cent were born in Alberta. Five per cent of residents are aboriginal.
