Biography
State Rep. John Lawless was elected to represent the 150th District in Montgomery County in 1990 and is serving his sixth term. Before his election, he was an assistant manager for Bell Telephone Co. of Philadelphia.

After graduating from Methacton High School, Lawless earned a B.S. in education from West Chester University. He took graduate courses at the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science.

He is responsible for several pieces of legislation. In 1998, the governor signed a Lawless bill to prevent state prison inmates from receiving obscene and other sexual materials while serving time. In 2001, Lawless won House passage of "Erin's Law," a measure to promote public awareness of hygiene concerns at animal petting zoos, particularly of the dangers to children from unsanitary conditions.

Throughout his legislative career, he has fought to increase funding for basic education and higher education, while also demanding accountability and fiscal responsibility from educational institutions.

John Lawless is active in numerous community organizations and activities. He belongs to the West Norriton Little League Board of Directors, Perkiomen Valley Chamber of Commerce, American Legislative Exchange Council, and Norristown Farm Park Advisory Committee. He is the former coach of the Bishop Kenrick Varsity Soccer Team.

Lawless and his wife, Deanne, have three children.

On Nov. 30, 2001, Lawless' 44th birthday, he joined the Democratic caucus in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
