It really isn't much of a risk for young, healthy people. Many will get sick, but for almost all of them it won't be worse than the flu. And luckily, it doesn't seem to affect young kids even as much as the flu does.

The real problem will be a lot of sickness and death among older 60+ people and people with significant previous health problems. We could very well get into the millions of deaths there (which is still only 0.0002% of the world population). Plus, it could overwhelm the medical profession and degrade regular care as well. The quarantine behavior isn't likely to stop it now, but it could slow it down enough for hospitals to cope.

The markets responded today with their thoughts. Dow down 10% today alone. Worst last 30 days for the market since 1987.

If last nights winded, tele-prompter read statement was supposed reassure the public and markets, it did the opposite.

Market is looking for leadership on this issue, instead it got the opposite.

Trump still has time to turn it around, but lets remember he barely won last time. If he continues to alienate Wall Street and the travel industry, he (and Republicans) pushing votes to Biden and the Democrats.

From an electoral college perspective, this could push FLorida (cruise ships/resorts), Georgia (Atlanta major airline hub).

For markets, the “return to normalcy” campaign of Joe Biden is looking more and more attractive.
