Description | In her first re-election bid, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney shook off complaints of being a "lightweight" and soundly defeated Manhattan Councilman Charles Milliard.
Both candidates expected the race to be close. But even in an incredibly Republican year, Maloney had no trouble winning this district which Mario Cuomo carried with 78% of the vote.
Maloney also ran on the Independent Neighbors line.
