DescriptionBBC Profile:
Current MP Tim Boswell has held the seat for the Conservatives since the 1987 election. In 2005 he recorded a majority of 14,686 with over 50% of the vote.

At the election, boundary changes mean that this seat loses five of its southern part-wards to South Northamptonshire, and 19 entire wards. The seat now spreads further north-east, with seven full ward and two part-ward gains from Kettering, two part-ward gains from Northampton South, and a ward gain from Wellingborough. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.

The seat comprises elegant villages, only a handful of towns and large tracts of rural heartland.

The town of Daventry has continued to expand rapidly over the past decade or so, building on its well-placed location between Northampton and Rugby and its good transport links to London.

As well as being a large seat (by population), Daventry had among the highest proportions of professional, management and technical workers.

The seat enjoys a strong and extremely varied employment base, with agriculture and rural industries, leisure and tourism, warehousing and distribution and light engineering all employing a sizeable proportion of the working population.

Silverstone, home to the British Grand Prix, although no longer in the constituency itself, has also provided a basis for expanding industry.
