Description | BBC Profile:
Labour has held Tooting ever since the constituency's creation in the 1970s. Sadiq Khan retained the seat in 2005 but Labour's majority was nearly halved to 5,381 after its share of the vote fell by 11%. The Conservatives came second in 2005 with 30% of the vote compared with Labour's 43%.
Boundary changes here are minor: Wandsworth Common ward is now entirely within Tooting's boundaries, having previously been shared with Battersea. To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.
Tooting is one of three seats within the south London borough of Wandsworth, along with Battersea to the north and Putney to the north east. Tooting encompasses parts of Balham and Earlsfield.
The major local hospital, St George's, is within the constituency.
The seat is home to Tooting Bec Lido, the largest outdoor freshwater swimming pool in England, which thrives today as a major attraction in the area.
