Description | BBC Profile:
This new seat is a successor to Ealing, Acton and Shepherd's Bush. The original Acton seat had been mainly in Labour hands since 1945. However, the addition of some of the parts of Ealing in 1974 was just enough to swing it to the Conservatives. Labour took Ealing, Acton and Shepherd's Bush in 1997 and held it in 2001 with the current MP, Andrew Slaughter, being elected for Labour in 2005.
With significant boundary changes, Ealing Central and Acton will also inherit the eastern-most areas of the Ealing Southall constituency.
To find out what might have happened had this boundary change been in force at the last election, see a notional - or estimated - result below.
The new seat is an area wide-ranging in its social and ethnic diversity and also wealth distribution. Much of Ealing is relatively affluent and suburban, but there are significant areas of council housing, notably the South Acton estate.
The proximity of Heathrow Airport has a huge influence on transport and the environment in West London. It provides employment for many constituents. In the north, the constituency also includes the Park Royal industrial area.
Ealing Studios, standard bearer for the British film industry, is also based here, as is Thames Valley University.
