Description | In response to the implementation of the Top Two primary, the state Democratic Party has instructed its legislative district PCOs to hold nominating conventions to choose the party's official nominee. While any losing candidates are not barred from running, the winning candidate can claim to be the party's nominee on the ballot if s/he chooses and will have access to party resources for the primary that other candidates will not have.
Some Democratic district organizations have refused to hold nominating conventions, and in response party leader Dwight Pelz has threatened to nominate primary candidates through the state party apparatus should legislative-level parties fail to do so.
For the 40th district endorsement, Kevin Ranker's establishment support led him to an easy victory amongst the PCOs. In June, the district party will hold a series of endorsement meetings where they will give the top two candidates an official endorsement in addition to this nominating contest. |
