| Description | The Democrats won a major victory in the U.S. Senate races of 1964. They won a 57-43 victory in all races. However, that only translated into a one-seat gain. The Class of 1958 was up for re-election, and the Democrats had won most of the close seats six years earlier. In all, the Democrats won 28 seats in 1964 compared to 7 for the Republicans.
New Senators: Fannin (R-AZ), Murphy (R-CA), Tydings (D-MD), Mondale (DFL-MN), Montoya (D-NM), Kennedy (D,L-NY), Harris (D-OK), and Bass (D-TN).
