Description | Martin Chittenden fell 199 votes short of a majority in the General Election of 1814. The joint assembly convened on October 14 to hear the report of the canvassing committee and, in the case of the office of Governor, to vote by joint ballot for the three candidates who received the greatest number of votes. Chittenden was elected on the first ballot, receiving 124 of 218 ballots cast (56.4%). Galusha received 96 (44.0%), with one scattered vote. |
