Description | Jonas Galusha fell 155 votes short of a majority in the General Election of 1813. The joint assembly convened on October 14 to hear the report of the canvassing committee and, in the case of the office of Governor, to vote by joint ballot for the three candidates who received the greatest number of votes. Chittenden was elected on the first ballot, receiving 112 of 223 ballots cast (50.2%). Galusha received 111 (49.7%). There was a controversy over one disputed ballot for Galusha (See Assembly Journal, pp. 15-16). |
