| Description | In the election of 1920, the Republican Party swept all the Senate races outside of the South. They gained ten seats, winning 25 of the 32 races at stake. The new party breakdown was 59 Republicans and 37 Democrats. What is especially impressive about the GOP victory is that they defeated eight incumbents (seven Democrats and one affiliated with the National Party). |
