Description | Nasserist, left-wing pan-Arabist party launched initially in 2005 as the Unionistes Nassériens, extoling the leadership and philosophy of Egypt's former president, Gamal Abdel Nasser (party even chose a headquarters on Gamal Abdel Nasser Street). After years of division and internal turmoil, party was reconstituted, streamlined and merged by attorney Khaled Krichi in 2011 as the Progressive Unionist People's Movement. Holdovers however preferred the old name, People's Movement, and split off from Krichi's efforts in April 2011.The People's Movement has been led by its Secretary General Zouhair Maghzaoui since July 7, 2013. Party holds 15 seats in the Assembly of Representatives [حركة الشعب; Ḥarakat aš-Šaʿb; Mouvement du peuple (MP; or 'Echaâb')]. |
