Liberal, centrist, and nonsectarian political party in Northern Ireland. Founded in 1970 from members of the Ulster Liberal Party and the New Ulster Movement as a moderate, nonsectarian unionist Party, it later moved towards neutrality on the Union. Opposes the consociational power-sharing structure in the Good Friday Agreement, and emphasizes a distinct Northern Ireland community.
