Description | Centrist to center-left party led by Gibraltar's Deputy Chief Minister since December 9, 2011, Joseph Garcia. Party began as the Gibraltar National Party (GNP), which was launched by Gibraltarian nationalists demanding unconditional self-determination for Gibraltar. Party changed its name to the Gibraltar Liberal Party (GLP) on September 10, 1994, which was the 30-year anniversary of Gibraltar's establishment as a constitutional self-government, celebrated as Gibraltar National Day. Party rebranded itself the Liberal Party of Gibraltar (LPG) ahead of a planned electoral alliance with the Gibraltar Socialist Labour Party. Alliance was christened the GSLPāLiberal Alliance or GSLP-Libs in 2000 [Libs or LPG]. |
