Description | Center-right, Canarian-regionalist coalition turned party on May 2005. Coalition has held the presidency of the autonomous community of the Canary Islands without interruption since 1993. Coalition began with seven associations and parties, which was reduced to six when the Canarian Nationalist Party (Partido Nacionalista Canario) broke off in 2007. Coalition was founded to strengthen support for greater autonomy for the Canaries. Party has been led by the president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo Batlle, since November 29, 2020. Party holds one seat in both Spain's Senate and Congress of Deputies and 20 seats in the 70-seat Canarian Parliament [Coalición Canaria (CCa)].
