DescriptionState Rep. Denny Hoskins said Wednesday he and his brother Brian plan to pay the more than $20,000 in local taxes and more than $4,200 in penalties they owe.

Word of the delinquent taxes was released Wednesday by the Missouri House Democratic Campaign Committee, which provided copies of the tax bills issued by Johnson County Collector Ruthanne Small.

"It's not something my brother and I are proud of, but our rental property business, Hos Properties, LLC, is struggling, just like many other Missouri businesses," Hoskins told Digitalburg. "When our tenants are struggling to pay their rent, due to the economic recession, we struggle to pay our mortgage payment and property taxes on our rentals."

"These are property taxes from 2008," Hoskins said in a statement. "We have a plan and are continuing to work on collecting delinquent rent from previous tenants, so we can pay our 2008 property taxes on the rental properties as soon as we can. Our 2008 property taxes will be paid. Unfortunately, we, too, are not immune from the economic recession and are feeling the financial crunch, just like many other Missourians."
