| Description | This seat consists of the old Roxburgh & Berwickshire constituency with the addition of nine wards from the old Tweeddale, Ettrick & Lauderdale constituency. Two wards that were split between the old constituencies are now in Berwickshire, Roxburgh & Selkirk. The new constituency stretches west from the east coast fishing towns and villages through the hills along the border with England, and includes all the major border towns; Hawick, Jedburgh, Kelso, Melrose, Galashiels and Selkirk. It is an area well known for rugby and the historic Border abbeys. The decline of the textile industry has hit the area hard and several of the mills dotted across the constituency have closed. Hopes for further economic regeneration rests to some extent on the restoration of railway services on the once-famous Waverley Line, which is now being actively pursued.
