Description | Situated in the Lower Mainland along the U.S. border, this riding contains the city of Chilliwack, the district municipalities of Lillooet, Hope and Kent, and the villages of Pemberton and Harrison Hot Springs. There are a number of First Nations reserves, and the aboriginal population is around eight per cent. Another 13 per cent are immigrants. The overall population is 103,716.
Major industries in the riding are manufacturing, the service sector and retail. Unemployment is 9.5 per cent and the average family income is $55,059.
This riding was created in 2004 by combining about half of Fraser Valley with portions of Cariboo-Chilcotin, Dewdney-Alouette, Okanagan-Coquihalla and West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast.
