Description | This highly affluent riding in downtown Toronto takes in parts of Moore Park, Leaside and Don Mills.
The riding is bordered by Highway 401 to the north and Millwood Road and the Don River to the south. Yonge Street, Broadway Avenue, Eglinton Avenue, Bayview Avenue and Moore Avenue are on the western boundary, and Don Mills Road, the CN Rail line and the east branch of the Don River are on the east.
According to the 2001 census, the average family income in this riding is $136,032, the second highest in the province. More than 31 per cent of its residents have university degrees and close to half of the members of the workforce hold professional or managerial positions. There are many major business headquarters in the riding, as well as Glendon College (York University). Unemployment is 6.4 per cent.
The immigrant population is 45 per cent, with significant Chinese and Jewish communities.
The riding was created in 1976 as Don Valley and redrawn in 1996 to include part of Don Valley East and a small portion of Rosedale. In 2004, the riding was substantially unchanged.
