InfoA Surrey City Councillor since 1998, Barbara is Chair of the Police Committee, Alternate Director of the GVRD and member of the GVRD Water Committee. Her other council responsibilities include membership on the Finance and Public Safety Committees and she has served on the Library Board.

Barbara was President of the Parks, Recreation and Culture Commission for three years when the City constructed and opened the Surrey Sports and Leisure Centre, the Newton and Cloverdale artificial fields, and the Cloverdale, Bear Creek and Kwantlen Park Skate Board parks among others.

Barbara’s commitment to public service started when working with the Office of the Public Trustee, assisting people who were deemed incapable of managing their personal finances. She worked as a Financial Aid Worker for a social service agency in the Vancouver Downtown Eastside and participated in the Downtown Eastside Community Response Network.

Barbara is a member of the Whalley Business Improvement Association, the Whalley and Guildford Integrated Services Teams and the Surrey Crime Prevention Society. She has served for 10 years on the board of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society, and produced more than a dozen shows at the Surrey Arts Centre. She worked for many hours with the Surrey Museum to bring proposals to Council for the building of the new Surrey Museum and Archives (the Learning and Discovery Centre), opening this Fall.

Barbara studied English and Music at UBC and has lived in the Guildford area for twenty-five years. She has three grown children who attended Riverdale Elementary and graduated from Guildford Park Secondary School.
