InfoFrom his work as a lawyer, author and poet and human rights activist, Anwar Naqvi has earned a reputation as someone who cares and gets things done.

Born in India, Anwar later moved to Pakistan where, after years of speaking out against the dictatorship regimes that were destroying the country, he was eventually jailed. After his release he looked for a country "where real democracy exists" and moved to Canada.

Anwar is a highly successful professional founding a law firm that specializes in tax and corporate law. He is also a well known writer in his native language. He has published six works including political commentary, fiction and poetry. He has served two terms as president of the Niagara Falls Red Cross.

An Oakville resident since 1998, Anwar is married, the father of three grown children and a grandfather. He believes that we must protect our environment for future generations. An important mission is ensuring a Green Halton. He took this message to the streets in the fall of 2003 as the NDP provincial publicpower candidate in Oakville and in the spring of 2004 as the NDP federal candidate in Halton.

Anwar knows that Halton residents are compassionate, he says "They realize that there are people that are not so privileged." He wants to shine a light on the erosion of power from the public to large corporations. "All powers belong to the public," he says. "the public should exercise that power by voting." He wants to ensure that the impacts of development in Halton have been properly considered.

Halton residents can expect "total commitment and fearless leadership." The Naqvi family legend states that his great grandfather was executed by the British for being a freedom fighter in 1857. Anwar, it seems, has inherited that passion for justice and democratic will.
