Info | Tom Volgy's parents escaped from Hungary during the Hungarian revolution; they brought him to America when he was nine years old.
Tom has his bachelor's degree from Oakland University and his Master's and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Minnesota.
Tom came to Tucson 32 years ago. In addition to being a spouse and a parent,
Tom is an educator: he has taught thousands of undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Arizona where he is a full professor and has earned distinguished teaching awards;
Tom is a small business owner: he is co-owner of Magellan International LLC. which he has directed, along with Veritas, providing both national and international consulting and trading services.
Tom is an author: he has written over fifty articles and three books: International Politics and State Strength, Politics in the Trenches, and was the co-author of The Forgotten Americans: Working Hard and Living Poor in the Land of Opportunity.
Tom has done extensive public service for Tucson and nationally: he served as council member and then as Mayor on the Tucson City Council between 1977 and 1991.

Tom has volunteered with the U.S. government to assist emerging democracies. He has done so since 1989 in Hungary, Estonia, Romania, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Guyana.
In addition, Tom serves as the executive director of the International Studies Association, the largest association of scholars involved with international affairs, representing 61 different nations and virtually all major universities in the Western world.
