Info | Prior to his election to the Board of Supervisors, Supervisor Slocum served as the Chief Elections Officer & Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder of San Mateo County.
As County Clerk, he was the first in the nation to offer couples the opportunity to broadcast their wedding ceremonies on the internet so that families and friends all over the world could share these special moments.
As the Chief Elections Officer, he introduced accessible voting equipment with language and adaptive features to ensure that ALL voters could participate in fair, private and secure elections.
As Recorder, he oversaw the conversion of recorded paper documents to recorded electronic documents and the creation of a publicly searchable database which made it easy to research property information.
Early Life and Family
As a young man, Supervisor Slocum was raised by a single father and lived in San Diego. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served in Vietnam for one year – he was honorably discharged in 1969. He then attended San Diego State University where he earned his B.S. Degree in History.
Supervisor Slocum has a passion for family, public service, technology, and history. His wife, Maria Diaz-Slocum, and their two sons (and our dog, Crockett and cat, Max) have made their home in Redwood City for more than 30 years. Their sons were educated in the public school system and his wife is an elected Trustee of the Redwood City School District. They love this community and feel fortunate to call the Peninsula home.
