InfoBergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton is a law enforcement professional and community leader with more than 28 years of experience keeping Bergen County families safe. As Sheriff of the largest law enforcement agency in the state’s most populous county, Anthony leads a team of 600 officers and civilians who are committed to safeguarding close to 1 million residents living in 70 municipalities.

Born and raised in Englewood, Anthony proudly served for 25 years as a police officer in his home town and most recently served as the Director of Inmate Social Services/Education for the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office.

As a veteran of law enforcement, Anthony is a member of the FBI-Law Enforcement Executive Development Association, National Chiefs of Police Association and NJ Chiefs of Police West Point Alumni Association. He also teaches criminal justice as a professor at Ramapo College of New Jersey in Mahwah and Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck and as a guest lecturer at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City.

In addition to his distinguished law enforcement career, Anthony has long been committed to making a difference in our community and giving back. He was the longtime president of the Bergen County Branch of the NAACP, recently served on Governor Murphy’s transition team and has served on numerous boards of directors including those for the Calvary Care Afterschool Program, the Martin Luther King Jr. Senior Center, CarePlus NJ and the Bergen County African American Advisory Board.

For his commitment to community service, Anthony has been honored with the American Conference on Diversity’s 2006 Humanitarian of the Year Award, 2009 NAACP Branch Award for Community Service and the 2012 NAACP New Jersey State Conference Outstanding President of the Year Award. He has also received commendations from the Bergen County Council of Churches, Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey, Majestic Lodge and Friends and the U.S. House of Representatives.

Anthony holds a master’s degree in administrative science from Fairleigh Dickinson University and a B.S. in criminal justice from New Jersey City University, Jersey City. He also completed post graduate studies in executive negotiation and conflict management the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, IN; risk management and policy development at Pennsylvania State University, State College, PA; and the emerging leadership development program with the International City/Council Managers Association, Washington, D.C. Anthony is also a graduate of the West Point Command and Leadership Program sponsored by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police.

Anthony is a lifelong resident of Bergen County. He lives in Englewood with his wife, Natalie, and their two daughters.
