McDaniel is a graduate of Stephen Decatur High School and attended Illinois State University, the University of Illinois-Springfield and Richland Community College, receiving a Associate in Arts Degree, Associate in Applied Science Degree in Business Management, and Associate in Applied Science Degree in General Business and Retail Management.

McDaniel is Executive Director of the Macon County Historical Society and Museum Complex and previously was Community Reporter and Photographer for the Decatur Tribune and Divisional Vice President for Sales and Service for Sangamon, Inc. /Service Advantage.

McDaniel was elected to the Decatur City Council on April 5, 2011 and was elected to fill the remaining two-year term (May 1, 2011 to April 30, 2013) vacated by Councilman Adam Brown.

McDaniel is active in the Decatur community as member of the Grace United Methodist Church, president of the Heritage Network, advisory member of the Illinois State Historical Society, member of Oglesby Mansion, Inc, member of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation, past member of the Illinois State Fair Decatur Day Committee, past co-chair of the Decatur Attractions Committee, past member of the City of Decatur Neighborhood Community Task Force, past president of the West End Neighborhood Association, past president of the Coalition of Neighborhood Organization, past executive board vice president of the Downtown Decatur Council, Inc., past member of the Decatur Macon County 175th Anniversary Celebration Committee and past member of the City of Decatur Heritage Committee.
