InfoSuperintendent of Public Instruction Lisa Graham Keegan was elected in 1994 after two terms as a state representative. She was re-elected in 1998. Superintendent Keegan received her B.S. in Linguistics from Stanford University and her M.S. in Communication Disorders from Arizona State University. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 1990 and re-elected in 1992. She was elected Superintendent of Public Instruction in 1994. Before her election to the House, Mrs. Keegan served as a speech pathologist for the Veterans Administration Medical Center and Phoenix General Hospital. She also served as a project assistant for U.S. West/Arizona State University Speech and Hearing Outreach Program. She has served as a director and president of the YWCA of Maricopa County and the Stanford Club of Phoenix. She has been a member of the Arizona Town Hall and the Junior League of Phoenix Advisory Board and the Scottsdale Leadership Advisory Board. As a legislator, Mrs. Keegan served as chair of the House Education Committee and the Appropriations Committee's Education Subcommittee, sponsored education reform and tort reform legislation, and was a member of the Joint Legislative Budget Committee and the Judiciary Committee. As state Superintendent of Public Instruction, she oversees an annual budget of $1.6 billion and is the chief executive officer of the State Board of Education. She also serves as a member of the Arizona Board of Regents, the State Board of Directors for Community Colleges, the Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and Blind, and the State Board for Charter Schools.
