Info | Raymonde Folco was first elected to the House of Commons in 1997 to represent the former riding of Laval-Ouest, and was re-elected in 2000. In 2004 and 2006 she was re-elected in the new riding of Laval-Les Îles.
Ms. Folco is the Official Languages Critic. During the last session of Parliament, she chaired the Liberal Caucus Committee on Immigration and the Quebec Liberal Caucus. She also chaired the Canadian Association of Parliamentarians for Population and Development (CAPPD), and the House of Commons Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills Development, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.
From 2000 to 2003, she served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources Development.
Madame Folco has been a member of the Bureau of Liberal International since 2000 and has served as its Treasurer and Vice-President. She has also served as a UN observer for the legislative elections in the Ivory Coast, as delegate of the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (Washington, DC) on a mission to the Central African Republic and the Republic of the Congo, and was the sole official Canadian observer present during the East Timor Referendum of 1999.
Before entering federal politics, Madame Folco served on the Immigration and Refugee Board. Madame Folco holds a BA from the University of Melbourne (Australia), a BA in linguistics from the Université du Québec à Montréal; and an MA from Concordia University.
