Info | Originally from Phoenix Arizona, My family relocated to Alaska soon after the 1964 earthquake. They chose Alaska for its beauty, safety and economic opportunity. My Father was a drywall and painting contractor and my mother worked construction. We made the trip up the Alcan in a 1965 turquoise blue Ford F-150 that I still treasure today. After a two-year stop in Anchorage we settled in Fairbanks, the place I call home today.
Early on, I was taught the value of hard work. While growing up I cannot remember a Saturday that didn’t include hauling paint and mixing drywall mud for my Father. I attended school at some of the same places I send my kids today; Hunter and Denali Elementary, Main Jr. High, Ryan Middle School, and Lathrop High School. Lathrop is where my wife and four of my college age children are all proud to have graduated.
Jobs in Fairbanks were plentiful after graduation and I went straight to work on the Alaska Pipeline as a Welder’s Helper, traveling from Delta to Prudhoe Bay. I finished my pipeline days as a master journeymen drywall and painter.
After a few successful years up North, I attended Hutchinson Career Development Center, where I was able to earn certification as an Airplane Mechanic.
I continued helping with the family construction business while working for several local Airline companies, such as Air North, Friendship Air and MarkAir until joining the Alaska Air National Guard in 1987. My unit was activated several times and my duties as a Crew Chief with the 168th, took me all over the world, including Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm.
During my full time service in the Alaska Air Guard, I attended UAF to obtain my undergraduate requirements for Dental School. In 1995, I packed up my family and moved to Omaha to attend Creighton, graduating with a DDS in 1999. I was privileged to continue my ANG service with a unit in Lincoln Nebraska, while I attended school.
Many opportunities were available to us as I finished my degree at Creighton, but my wife and I knew that Fairbanks was home and that there was no better place to raise our five young children.
It is hard to believe that it has been 12 years since we purchased our first Dental practice in Fairbanks. With plenty of hard work and family support, I have expanded that practice across the State, with additional offices in Wasilla and Anchorage.
One phone call to a legislator, several years ago, concerning an issue facing Alaskan dentists and people living in the Bush communities, launched me into several leadership positions within the Alaska Dental Society. I have most recently served as the President of the ADS working with issues that have taken me across Alaska as well as to Washington D.C.
I have also held Republican positions as District 8 Chairman, District 8 Delegate for the State Conventions is 2008, 2010 and 2012. I was a Delegate to the National Convention in 2008 and have been elected to a National Delegate position again in 2012.
My free time is spent enjoying Alaska with my family; there is no better place to live!
