Info | HOUSE, John Ford, a Representative from Tennessee; was born near Franklin, Williamson County, Tenn., on January 9, 1827; attended the local academy and the Transylvania University, Lexington, Ky., and was graduated from the Lebanon Law School in 1850; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Franklin, Tenn.; moved to Montgomery County, Tenn.; member of the State house of representatives in 1853; presidential elector on the Constitutional Union ticket of Bell and Everett in 1860; member of the Provisional Congress of the Confederacy from Tennessee; during the Civil War enlisted in the Confederate Army and served until paroled in Columbus, Miss., in June 1865; delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1868; member of the State constitutional convention in 1870; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth and to the three succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1875-March 3, 1883); was not a candidate for renomination in 1882; resumed the practice of law; died in Clarksville, Tenn., June 28, 1904; interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
