InfoA strong advocate of multiculturalism, post-secondary education and various other social rights, Margarett Best will continue the progress of the Dalton McGuinty Liberals in her community of Scarborough Guildwood as their MPP.

As an established lawyer, Margarett has over 10 years experience in litigation. From 1988-1991, Margarett earned her B.A. at the University of Toronto. She then went onto attend Osgoode Hall Law School, where she graduated with her LL.B. in 1995 and was called to the bar in 1997. She has also worked as a Policy Researcher and Analyst for the African Canadian Legal Clinic.

In addition to her legal work, Margarett has also sat on numerous boards and councils. As First Vice-President of the Black Business & Professional Association from 2004-2006, she addressed various community issues, while organizing events such as the Annual Harry Jerome Awards. From 2005-2006, Margarett sat on the Ontario Provincial Police Advisory Committee. The group served as a collective voice for safety-related issues within Ontario, especially those regarding diversity. Recently, the Lieutenant Governor-in-Council appointed Margarett to the College Compensations and Appointments Council. There, she sits as a member of both the Human Resources and Premier’s Awards Committees.

As a community activist, Margarett has done extensive work in her riding of Scarborough-Guildwood. In her role as a panelist at the Applause Institute, she has engaged youth with her advice on leadership, business smarts and social skills. Through several panel discussions, Margarett provides adolescents with the information and encouragement they will need to succeed in the future. As a long time advocate for social and gender equality, she has served as a board member to both the Women’s Rights Action Coalition of Durham and the Sheena’s Place Breakfast Committee.
