Info | LACEY, Edward Samuel, a Representative from Michigan; born in Chili, Monroe County, N.Y., November 26, 1835; moved with his parents to Branch County, Mich., in October 1842, and to Eaton County in March 1843; attended the public schools and Olivet College; engaged in various business pursuits and in banking; a resident of Kalamazoo, Mich., 1853-1857; moved to Charlotte, Mich., and was register of deeds for Eaton County 1860-1864; mayor of Charlotte in 1871; trustee of the Michigan Asylum for the Insane 1874-1880; delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1876; elected as a Republican to the Forty-seventh and Forty-eighth Congresses (March 4, 1881-March 3, 1885); declined to be a candidate for reelection in 1884; chairman of the Republican State central committee 1882-1884; commissioned by President Harrison to be Comptroller of the Currency April 17, 1889; reappointed December 16, 1889, and served until 1892, when he resigned; moved to Chicago, Ill., and again engaged in banking; died in Evanston, Ill., October 2, 1916; interment in Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte, Mich.
