InfoOn May 15, 2005, Robin Baird was nominated to be the Conservative Party candidate in the federal riding of Victoria for the next election. Mr. Baird was born in Winnipeg in 1964 and has lived in Victoria BC since the age of four. He was educated at local schools from K-12 and has degrees from the University of British Columbia (B.A. 1986), Queen’s University (LL.B 1989) and the London School of Economics (LL.M 1999). He also attended university in France (Université de Tours 1981-1982) and speaks fluent French.

Called to the bar of British Columbia in 1990, Mr. Baird has had a varied legal career as a Crown prosecutor and lawyer for private clients in litigation matters with an emphasis on criminal and family law cases. He is one of a small team of BC prosecutors who are designated to conduct criminal proceedings in the French language. He has been a sessional lecturer at the faculty of law, University of Victoria, in international human rights law, and an occasional lecturer in the law of evidence, criminal procedure, and advocacy.

Mr. Baird has been active in the community for many years serving on a variety of boards and committees, including the Glenlyon Norfolk School Alumni Board (B.C.), the Mayor of Victoria’s Advisory Committee on Construction of A Multiplex Facility, and the St. Michaels University School Alumni Association. Mr. Baird has also been a faithful member of the Salvation Army Pro Bono Legal Clinic, the Victoria Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association, Criminal Lawyer’s Section, and the Y.M.C.A.

Robin Baird and his wife, Leslie, have two children, Alastair, Jane.
