Maybe nobody cares but...
The situation among Texas Democrats in 1952 was complicated and revolved around what was called the tidelands oil issue. President Truman had issued an executive order nationalizing offshore oil located on the continental shelf beyond low tide. The governors of CA, TX, and LA objected to this, wanting their oil companies to drill in these areas. Congress passed legislation consistent with these governors, but Truman vetoed it. Texas claimed lands reaching 10.5 miles into the Gulf of Mexico, consistent with the three Spanish leagues Mexico agreed to when Texas became independent. Three relevant lawsuits went to the US Supreme Court, which ruled for Truman, but in the fall of 1952 Eisenhower came out in favor of the Texas claim.
In Texas, Gov. Shivers was having a spat with Lyndon Johnson. Shivers met with Stevenson on Aug 23 to make his case, but Stevenson couldn't see a way to overcome the Supreme Court's three rulings. Republicans, hoping for help from Shivers to win the state for Ike, nominated Shivers as the Republican candidate for Governor (he had already won the Democratic nomination).
When the state Democratic convention met on Sept. 10, 1952, the delegates faced a three-way division among the states rights Dems, the Loyal Dems, and the Shivers Dems. The states rights Democrats wanted to list Stevenson as the "National Democratic" nominee and Ike as the "Texas Democratic" nominee. LBJ and Sam Rayburn, leaders of the "Loyal Democrats" who supported Stevenson, wanted to list Stevenson as the Democratic nominee and force people to vote Republican if they liked Ike. The convention started a roll call on the states rights plan; it was losing by a 2:1 margin when its leaders withdrew the motion rather than lose in the convention. Then the convention passed a Shivers-supported resolution that allowed Democrats to campaign and vote for Ike if they saw fit (Austin American-Statesman, 9/10/1952). The Texas Democrats didn't endorse Ike but agreed not to punish party members who supported him.

Idk if this happened to anyone else, but since last night, me and @User#11476 were unable to log on to the site until just now. Was there any issue that needed to be fixed?

Signing off for a bit. Heading out for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, maybe back sometime around New Years. Trying to stay offline as much as possible. Wishing everyone a great holiday season whatever you celebrate and whoever you celebrate with. Hope you make some good memories.
A little housekeeping, I've entered in as much of the certified results as I could in Colorado. 5 of 64 counties as of this evening are still outstanding of certified results (Boulder, Lake, Rio Blanco, Costilla, and Dolores). Most of the State House and State Senate certified results need to be entered along with the District Attorneys. CO Results can be found of this link
[Link]
Cert results in New Mexico will probably be made available when I'm gone, but heres a link to them

Me too. Haven't seen you posting lately. Maybe you just needed to take a break. Appreciate all the behind the scenes stuff you do to keep this site running. I know its a hobby, but its also probably a passion project. The people here and on the net appreciate it. There is nothing like this site for political data nerds.
We don't say it enough here - but thank you for all you do!

Happy centennial to a rare example of a man of integrity to occupy the Oval Office. His party should look to his deregulatory instincts these days, as well.

Said he won't run in 2028 if he loses. Hopefully this causes the MAGA movement to die out, but I have my doubts.

Just got home - what a rally! It was exciting to be there and hear Kamala in person. Some quick thoughts and observations.
I always like to have a sense of crowd sizes too. In this room, the podium was in the middle, with attendees around the four walls. I counted the people in the section behind her - 620 people. Six of them held the huge letters that spelled KAMALA that they held up from time to time. I was in the largest section in front of the podium, with smaller groups on the end walls. Altogether, I think a safe estimate is 2,500 to 3,000 people. It was pretty packed but about 2/3 the way through I looked around and saw some extra space in the back corners (people kept pushing inwards). Both the W-B mayor and Shapiro were visibly surprised to see so many people there.
They also ran out of signs for people to hold. The campaign prioritized signs for people behind Kamala since they would be seen on television. People in the section on the end to her left also got a lot of signs (nearest the entrance). My section had about 10 signs total, although we had easily half of everyone in attendance (we weren't on television though). Boxes of signs arrived during the rally, and I picked up two of them to bring home. I actually didn't want a sign during the event because I held my cell phone up to film her - I had to put my phone in my pocket when I wanted to clap.
During Kamala's speech, I was about 40 feet away from her. You could tell her voice was a little strained. I hope she is taking care of her vocal chords - campaigning can be strenuous (as Gerald Ford discovered) and self-care is critical. She had two rallies yesterday in NC - with 7,500 people at her Charlotte rally and 17,000 at her Greensboro rally (compared to 2,500 at Trump's Arizona rally yesterday). That is a lot of talking if you aren't used to doing it.
Pro-Palestinian hecklers interrupted her three times. One guy was standing immediately in front of me. He was filming her on his phone and began shouting about halfway through her speech. Some people tried to interrupt him, with two people trying to take his phone. I was a little afraid he would lose his balance as he was trying to get a better hold on his phone, so I put my palm on his back to help him stay standing. A security woman came up to him and convinced him to leave peacefully - which was actually a little difficult because the crowd was really packed in. Kamala ignored the hecklers today, although when they were the loudest the crowd yelled to drown them out. A group of about a dozen stood in the rear near the media - they were a little loud for me but I don't imagine the sound system picked up their voices.
I have seen three of Kamala's rallies on YouTube before this. She tends to add a few lines throughout the speech and drop lines that didn't land well, so easily 90% of this speech was also used in a recent rally I watched. If you go to one of her rallies, don't watch an earlier one on YouTube beforehand because it really takes some of the luster away. I would have liked to hear a little more about her reflections on the debate. Maybe she didn't say much because she wants to save her approach and debate strategy in case another debate materializes.
Something I found interesting was a woman whose job it was to bring the VP seal for the podium. She put it on the podium just before Bob Casey spoke, and right after Kamala finished the woman returned and removed the seal.
Some recommendations if you go to a rally - be prepared to stand. I stood for most of five hours (2:15 to 7). I sat on the floor a little before the speakers started, but as the crowd thickened it wasn't possible to sit down any longer. Also if you have a sign, bring it even though they say not to do that - some people brought their signs from home and were allowed to bring them in. If you travel a distance to get to the rally (I drove 2 hours each way), try to carpool - it would have helped me to share the ride with someone. I kinda wish I hadn't filmed so much of the rally. The whole thing got posted on YouTube, and my arms got tired of holding the phone up for so long - also it added a degree of separation that I think took away from the experience for me (a few photos is enough). Finally, at the very beginning some people would do test runs of crowd replies like "KAMALA" and "Not Going Back." I didn't always participate because I expected to lose my voice and I wanted to save it for the main speaker.
