On Monday, March 21, the Orlando City Council voted on dates to hold a special election for an interim Mayor to serve during Mayor Buddy Dyer's absence. The special election process and dates were determined based on review and legal interpretation of the Florida Constitution, state statutes and City Charter.
The following special election dates were set by City Council:
Qualifying: March 31, 8 am - 5 pm
Election day: May 3
Run-off election day: May 24
If former Mayor Buddy Dyer is found not guilty, he will immediately retake Mayor's office by law
The race was canceled after Dyer was cleared of all wrongdoing on 4/20/05.
