The Democratic district convention met in Greensboro on 7/11-12/1888. The delegates nominated Morehead on the 173d ballot.
Most ballots had the same result, and papers only reported these numbers: Morehead 118, Buxton 99, and Williams 83. After ballot 172, Buxton withdrew.
