Info | WILLIAMS, Archibald Hunter Arrington, (nephew of Archibald Hunter Arrington), a Representative from North Carolina; born near Louisburg, Franklin County, N.C., October 22, 1842; attended the common schools and Emory and Henry College, Emory, Va.; enlisted as a private in the Confederate Army during the Civil War; served four years in the Army of Northern Virginia, and at the surrender at Appomattox was captain of his company; after the war engaged in agricultural pursuits and in retail trade in Oxford, Granville County, N.C.; developer and president of the Oxford & Henderson Railroad; member of the State house of representatives 1883-1885; elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-second Congress (March 4, 1891-March 3, 1893); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1892 to the Fifty-third Congress; died in Chase City, Mecklenburg County, Va., September 5, 1895; interment in Elmwood Cemetery, Oxford, N.C.
