Description | STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) – A state senator from Stevens Point launched a bid for Congress Monday in an effort to keep the seat in Democratic hands.
Julie Lassa will be the only Democrat to run for the seat that Representative Dave Obey is giving up after 41 years, a party source said.
“The hard working men and women of our area deserve a representative who will keep fighting to turn our economy around, even when it means standing up to special interests,” Lassa said.
Lassa grew up on a dairy farm in Portage County. She graduated from Stevens Point Area Senior High and UW-Stevens Point and is married with two children. She and her family live in Stevens Point.
Voters first elected Lassa to the state Assembly in 1998. She resigned in 2003 and won a special election to the Senate seat she now holds. She won re-election in 2004 and 2008. |
