The riding contains the regional county municipalities of Charlevoix, Charlevoix-Est, La Côte-de-Beaupré and L'Île-d'Orléans and La Haute-Côte-Nord, including Communauté Montagnaise Essipit Indian Reserve. In the southeast corner, part of Quebec City – south of rue de la Sérenité and east of Rue Labelle and Boulevard Armand-Paris – falls in the riding.
Two of the main sources of employment are manufacturing and the service sector. The average family income is $54,163 with unemployment of 11.4 per cent.
In the 2001 census, 97 per cent of residents gave French as their mother tongue, the fourth highest level among Quebec ridings. Only 0.5 per cent were anglophone and there is a small immigrant population. More than 15 per cent of the population has less than a Grade 9 education.
In 2004, Charlevoix-Montmorency riding was created from 57 per cent of Charlevoix and 46 per cent of Beauport-Montmorency-Côte-de-Beaupré-Île-d'Orléans. A riding called Charlevoix previously existed from 1867 to 1914. The riding of Charlevoix was re-established in 1947 from Charlevoix-Saguenay. There was no change in the 1996 redistribution.
Population: 89,257
NOTE: Known as "Charlevoix-Montmorency" throughout the 2004 election, this riding's name was changed to "Montmorency-Charlevoix-Haute-Côte-Nord" directly afterwards. The new name is said to be a more accurate reflection of the area.
