Description This southern Quebec riding has the Canada-U.S. border as its southern and eastern boundary. In the west, it forms the southern, eastern and western boundaries of the Sherbrooke riding. The riding contains part of the city of Sherbrooke, the regional county municipalities of Coaticook and Le Haut-St-François, and part of Memphrémagog. The city of Stanstead, the villages of Ayer's Cliff and North Hatley and the municipalities of Hatley, Ogden, Ste-Catherine-de-Hatley and Stoke fall in the riding, as well as Hatley and Stanstead townships.

Industries in the riding include manufacturing, small business and agriculture.

According to the 2001 census, 13 per cent of the population have English as their mother tongue and 83 per cent are francophone. The average family income is $53,679 and unemployment is 6.3 per cent.

In 2004, seven per cent of Frontenac-Mégantic, three per cent of Richmond-Arthabaska and four per cent of Sherbrooke were added. The riding of Compton existed from 1867 to 1947 and 1966 to 1976. The riding of Mégantic-Compton-Stanstead was established in 1976. Compton-Stanstead was established in the 1996 redistribution from 68 per cent of Mégantic-Compton-Stanstead and 27 per cent of Richmond-Wolfe.
