Description |
This central B.C. riding includes the district municipalities of Salmon Arm and Sicamous and the communities of Vernon and Salmon Arm. There are also several First Nations reserves here.
The 2001 census counted 109,711 residents. Eleven per cent are immigrants, and nearly 18 per cent are older than 65.
Manufacturing and the service sector are major employers here. Also important are agriculture and forest products. Average family income was $53,932 in 2001, and unemployment was 11.1 per cent.
The boundaries of North Okanagan-Shuswap have remained largely unchanged since 1986, though in 2004 the riding gained about 3,500 residents formerly of Kamloops-Thompson and Highland Valleys.
