InfoAs a Victoria City Councillor, social justice advocate, and long-time Victoria resident, Rob Fleming has the experience, the commitment, and the broad support necessary to take Victoria-Hillside back for the NDP.

With a proven track record fighting Gordon Campbell's cuts, and bringing people together to improve services like social housing, public safety, and transit, Rob can unite Hillside residents around a progressive plan for change, and improved community services.

Moreover, Rob's work in the student movement and with youth, and his proven ability to bring young British Columbians into the NDP, gives him the unique capacity to reach out and build the party for the future.

To win the next election, Rob believes the NDP needs to put forward a positive agenda for change that can attract support of a broad-cross section of British Columbians.

"It's not enough to say Gordon Campbell has been bad for BC. British Columbians know that. With Carole James as our Leader, the NDP needs to keep putting forward positive, practical solutions to the real problems faced by average British Columbians."

Rob has called Victoria home for more than a decade. A University of Victoria graduate with a BA in history, Rob was first elected to Victoria City Council in 1999 at age 28. He immediately started work to improve city services, successfully promoting alternatives to transit fare increases, helping to establish a social housing trust fund, and starting a dialogue about harm reduction and addiction issues.

In response to Gordon Campbell's cuts to municipalities and public services, Rob spearheaded a special Task Force involving community agencies, small businesses trade unions and local government to deal with the impacts on Victoria.

Rob is the Chair of the City's Finance and Personnel Committee and is the Council liaison to the Transportation Advisory Committee. Rob also holds the City's youth portfolio, is Vice-Chair of the CRD Housing Corporation, and is a member of the Water Commission. He sits on the Veins of Life Watershed Society Board of Directors and is a Director of Environment Defense Canada.

Rob lives in Fernwood with his wife Maura Parte. He is an avid reader, especially of history, a dedicated soccer fan and player, and an avid user of Victoria‚ parks and beaches usually with his dog Lula in tow.
