Info | Guy Gentner is a Delta Councillor, first elected in 1999.
A member of the New Democratic Party since 1973, Guy has been a very active member of the community. As an avid conservationist for urban ecology Guy joined the Burns Bog Conservation Society serving as the board membership and research director and vice-president. Guy also helped form the North Delta/Newton Public Hospital Society, served on Delta’s Heritage Advisory Commission, Delta’s Board of Variance and the Delta Arts Council. Guy is also a past president of the North Delta Ratepayers Association.
As a member of the Mayor’s Burns Bog Task Force, Guy was instrumental in negotiating a public purchase of Burns Bog. As chair of the Delta Parks, Recreation and Culture Commission Guy re-organized the department that included a significant capitalization program for parks, recreation and the arts. Guy’s efforts were instrumental in the delivery of an enhanced Sun God Aquatic Centre, Mackie Park Artificial Turf Field, improvements to our Watershed Park and the new Fire Hall Centre for the Arts. Guy spoke out against unsafe playgrounds and initiated a $3 million CSA approved program of safe playgrounds.
Innovative and determined as always, Guy also successfully promoted Delta as a livable community by initiating the internationally acclaimed “Tour de Delta” bike race.
Currently, Guy serves as chair of Delta’s Planning and Environment Committee and acts as Delta’s liaise on the Foreshores and Harbour’s Committee and the Communities and Development Committee. As vice chair of Delta’s Standing Committee of Finance and chair of Traffic and Safety Committee, Guy has been able to raise the profile of needed infrastructure improvements including a new, boosted sidewalk improvement program. Guy represents Delta on the GVRD Parks Committee and is Delta’s alternate director to the GVRD Board.
Raised in Richmond, Guy is a graduate of Simon Fraser University. Guy is also a transit operator and has been employed by Coast Mountain Bus Company for almost 20 years.
