Info | My name is Sam McLean. I was born (1962) in a regional hospital in Stephenville Crossing on the west coast of Newfoundland. My parents were living in Stephenville, a larger adjacent community influenced in great part by the American Base which was there as part of the DEW line. It was here where I spent the next seventeen years.
After finishing high school (1979) at St. Stephen’s High I attended university at Memorial University of Newfoundland where I studied and graduated with a degree in French. These studies took me to Québec, St. Pierre et Miquelon and continental France. As part of this degree I also studied intensely the Social Sciences. I then went on to pursue an Education degree, graduating in 1986.
My first two years teaching were spent in the eastern Northwest Territories (now Nunavut) in a small community called Baker Lake. On returning to Newfoundland and Labrador, I immediately began teaching FSL (French as a Second Language) and have been doing so with even more vigor and enthusiasm than when I started. Presently, I am teaching highschool students.
I love all aspects of life, from the Arts to Zoology.
I chose to become an NDP candidate because I think for a long time, Newfoundland and Labrador has been a non-entity in Ottawa. The NDP platform proposed to do better. Their position on Health Care, Natural Resources, Education, Environment, Tax Reform, seniors and youth out perform those of the other two leading parties.
