Bevin was a towering figure in the history of the British Labour Movement. He co-founded the Transport & General Workers Union and led it for over twenty years, served as Minister of Labour during the Second World War and as Foreign Secretary in the Attlee government, in which capacity he was instrumental in the creation of NATO.
