Description |
By-election caused by the resignation of Harry Nathan - who had gained the seat for Labour in another by-election in 1937 - who had been appointed to the House of Lords.
Bevin was already the Minister of Labour & National Service at the time of the by-election. It was agreed amongst the member parties of the Wartime Coalition that his candidacy ought not be opposed.
